OFFICIAL CHRONICLE OF THE PAST DAYS:

Leyla Aliyeva and Gretel Aguilar discussed cooperation opportunities in Switzerland

On January 29, Leyla Aliyeva met with Gretel Aguilar, director general of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), in Gland, Switzerland.

The meeting discussed the role of international cooperation in the background of current challenges in the field of environmental protection in Azerbaijan and the region, the importance of coordinated approaches at the global and regional level, as well as the prospects of strengthening the dialogue in this direction.

It was reported that since 2014 IDEA Public Union, a full member of IUCN, actively participates in international initiatives in the direction of nature protection and biodiversity protection and contributes to the expansion of cooperation in this field. The participants of the meeting, which touched on the joint pavilion and a number of other projects presented at the IUCN World Conservation Congress held last year in Abu Dhabi, noted the positive experience gained and expressed their belief that mutual cooperation will continue successfully.

Also, within the framework of the meeting, the organization of a high-level regional dialogue with IUCN in Azerbaijan, joint participation in international events, including the World Urban Development Forum (WUF13), World Environment Day and COP31, were discussed.

At the end of the meeting, a Declaration of Intent was signed, which envisages the further expansion of activities and cooperation relations in the direction of opening the country office of IUCN in Azerbaijan.

The parties evaluated the discussions as an important step in the development of long-term and multilateral cooperation between IDEA Public Union and IUCN.

Let's note that IUCN, which has been operating since 1948, is one of the world's leading international organizations in the field of environmental protection, biodiversity protection, and sustainable development. In 1964, the IUCN made an important contribution to environmental assessment and decision-making processes at the global level by creating the Red Book, which reflects the status of endangered plant and animal species.
