Environmental problems of the Caspian Sea were discussed in Geneva with the participation of Leyla Aliyeva

High-level panel discussions on "Strengthening of environmental management and international cooperation for the protection of the Caspian Sea" were held at the headquarters of the UN in Geneva, jointly organized by the Permanent Mission of Azerbaijan to the UN Branch in Geneva and other international organizations, the Caspisnet scientific network and the Secretariat of the Tehran Convention.

Speaking at the official part of the event, Leyla Aliyeva informed about the global importance of the Caspian Sea, the environmental threats it faces and the importance of joint activities based on scientific research to protect it for future generations. Leyla Aliyeva stressed that the processes of sea level decline and loss of biodiversity can lead to more serious consequences if timely and coordinated measures are not taken. He called on the participants of the event to continue the discussions on the Caspian Sea with concrete steps that bring real results.

Tatyana Valovaya, the director general of the UN office in Geneva, and Galib Israfilov, the permanent representative of the Republic of Azerbaijan at the UN branch in Geneva and other international organizations, spoke at the event and noted that such discussions are of great importance for the development of dialogue between state institutions, international organizations and the expert community. They said that the expansion of institutional cooperation in the field of environmental management, as well as the exchange of information and experience, will contribute to efforts towards the protection of the Caspian Sea.

Later, in the framework of various panel sessions, with the participation of Arnold Krailhuber, Regional Director of the UN Environment Program for Europe, Francesca Raccioppi, Head of the European Environment and Health Center of the World Health Organization, as well as leaders and representatives of the University of Geneva, "Geneva Water Hub", Caspisnet and a number of other international organizations and think tanks, opinions were exchanged on environmental management, the importance of scientific research, as well as the role of international cooperation and water diplomacy in the direction of protecting the Caspian Sea. initiatives have been put forward.

A short documentary film dedicated to the environmental problems of the Caspian Sea was also shown for the participants. The event ended with an interactive session organized in a question-and-answer format.
