Politicians supporting protesters detained in Iran
In January, several political figures were arrested in Iran for supporting the protesters.
The statement reads: "Tehran's prosecutor accused the members of the political and media movement who absurdly tried to cover up the terrorist attacks that took place in January (Iranian authorities call these events riots - ed.) and thus affected the security of the country."
Furthermore, these political figures are said to support Israel and the United States.
It is noted that they may include the former leader of the Iranian Reform Front, Azer Mansouri, the former deputy foreign minister, Mohsun Aminzadeh, and the political activist and member of parliament (1988-1992) Ibrahim Asgarzadeh. At the beginning of his political career, Ibrahim Asgarzade was one of the leaders of the group of Iranian students who took over the US Embassy in Tehran in 1979.
