This year, on April 14 - May 2, at the Azerbaijan Carpet Museum will be held the solo exhibition Tesaduf by the Azerbaijan honored artist Inna Kostina. The exhibition will feature 48 batik examples. This are the artist’s works in a series of paintings Phoenix and Tesaduf, made in the technique of hot and cold batik.
In the late 90s and early 2000s, I. Kostina created a series of works in batik technique on the theme Simurg. Simurg is a fantastic bird, which is very popular in mythology of the Turkic-speaking peoples. The Simurg series resembles the Azerbaijani medieval miniature painting and monumental stained-glass windows in medieval Gothic cathedrals. This is a Heavenly Art.
In October 2016 was organized an exhibition of the artist titled It is hot, gagash. I. Kostina created a series of paintings, in a grotesque form reflecting the daily reality. These male and female images live their busy lives, full of joy and pain, birth and death. However, these lives pass in the twilight of the monotonous rhythm of bodily being.
After these two projects comes the next turn in the creativity of I. Kostina. The artist creates a new series of batik in which combined elements from the two series. Here the mythological bird Simurg descends to the ground to imbue the earth with its mystical energy, in which dwell the lovely and charming heroes, our contemporaries of everyday life. In this series, the Myth and Reality merged into a single stream of being.
The exhibition will last until May 2.
