Model UN Summer School is full speed in Dashkesan

On 10-14 August 2015 Youth Training and Leisure Center in Dashkesan will host Model UN Summer School. The ultimate goal of this School that brings together up to 80 participants from different universities of Azerbaijan, is to foster the interest of youth to international relations and diplomacy, as well as share experience with young diplomats and make them more familiar with UN bodies.
Discussions on the topics as "Ensuring the security of international air space" and "Representation of women in top management positions" will be held in the format of the UN General Assembly. Along with 3-days simulation, Model UN Summer School also includes training sessions on further development of research, speaking and presentation skills.
This Summer School will be held within the framework of the joint project "Creating new platforms to support active youth engagement in the global policy debates" between UN Development Programme (UNDP) and the Ministry of Youth and Sports of the Republic of Azerbaijan. The project also includes the components as establishment of Model United Nations (Model UN) network in Azerbaijan and holding the National Model UN (National MUN) conference. We would like to remind that Model UN Summer School serves as preparatory stage to the National Model UN conference.
The Summer School was scheduled for these dates on purpose: the project partners will unite on August 12 to celebrate the International Youth Day. Note that the main theme of this year's International Youth Day is volunteering and promotion of a greater role for young people in the future Sustainable Development Agenda (post-2015).
Model United Nations (Model UN) is a type of non-formal education and simulation game enabling young people to play the roles of diplomats and ambassadors, to study international relations more closely and to advance relevant knowledge and skills. On the basis of the actual policies of the countries they represent, participants explore their political positions and develop political views to be able to speak in compliance with the political positions of those countries. The objective of the game is teaching youth such skills as leadership, public negotiation and the ways to make compromises.
