The cultural talents of Azerbaijan will be showcased alongside sporting excellence as part of the Baku 2015 European Games during the Medal Ceremonies.
‘Zafar’ is an original musical composition that will form the soundtrack for each of the 253 ceremonies which captures the spirit of Baku and is a celebration of the athletes as they receive their Bronze, Silver and Gold medals.
The unique work is a wonderful example of collaboration of leading Azeri composer Rashad Gashimov with the internationally renowned Greg Bowman.
Rashad Gashimov is one Azerbaijan’s most accomplished composers having received the award of Honoured Artist by the President of Azerbaijan in 2006.
He received his musical training in Baku Musical Technical School before entering the Azerbaijan State conservatorium in 1990. As a conductor, composer and leader of many important performances and for the past 20 years has been the leader of the ‘RAST’ group.
In this role Rashad continues to represent Azerbaijan in countries around the world including Russia, Turkey, United States, France, England, Singapore, Morocco, Turkmenistan, Belarus, Sweden and many more.
Bowman, Creative Director of Great Big Events, has international composing credits throughout the world including medal ceremony themes for events including the Olympic Games and was delighted to have the opportunity to work with such a gifted and creative Azeri composer as Rashad Gashimov. The Medal Ceremony Music was recorded in local Azerbaijan Promix recording studios.
The first-ever Medal of the European Games was presented in the Women’s Mountain Bike at the Velo Park this afternoon. During the 17 days of competition, more than 1700 medals will be presented and were created in collaboration with Azerbaijani artist Nargiz Huseynova. The locally hand crafted medals by Azersouvenir will be presented by more than 250 volunteers wearing a contemporary twist on traditional design elements from Azerbaijani designer Zumrud Mirzaliyeva.
